Have you heard of the U3A? Are you a member of a U3A group? The U3A is a non profit making UK movement of retired or semi retired folk who come together in groups to make new friends, learn new skills, do something active and have fun! Typical U3A groups are book clubs, craft clubs, social clubs, pilates, table tennis, gardening etc etc - the list is endless and can be added to at any time as long as there is someone to run the group and there are enough takers! We are starting a West Pennine Villages group based on all the villages to the east of Chorley and our Launch Meeting is on Thursday 6th June 10.30 am at Withnell Fold Sports and Social Club (PR6 8BA) Please come along to hear all about what we have to offer - and to tell us what you would like to be included. More details are available from Ann Furlong 07971 435342. Transport can be arranged if needed
Chorley Borough Council's update on changes to bin collections which are being implemented from the beginning of April is as follows. "The biggest focus is on Bank Holidays, which will now be included in the bin collection calendar as part of the changes being implemented across the borough to provide a better service for residents. Starting over Easter, if a household's collection falls on Good Friday or Easter Monday they can put their bins out as usual and they will be collected. Moving forward, collections will continue as normal across all Bank Holidays through the year, aside from the festive period. Although collection days will stay the same ahead of a review over the summer, collection times may differ slightly, so it is important residents have their bins out ready to be emptied by 7am. The move to Bank Holiday collections is part of a new contract, which is being taken on by FCC Environment, and includes a new fleet of collection lorries which are fitted with the latest technology, including 360-degree cameras. Residents can find their collection day by visiting chorley.gov.uk/bins. From 1 April, sign up will be live for the next 12-month cycle of garden waste collections, which begin on 1 May. Those who signed up last year via direct debit don't have do anything unless they want collections to stop. The one-off cost is £35 and can be paid via direct debit or online at chorley.gov.uk."
